The club wasn't a place Phoenix hung around much unless he had deals to make. The only club he hung out around was the one his best friend worked at. Though he could always wait until she got home and get a free show and to enjoy the benefit of being one of her closest friends, there was something different about seeing her at work. Really he preferred the bar since he was usually left alone unless some drunk guy with a point to prove wanted to pick a fight with him. Here he was being eyed by tipsy girls that would stare and whisper to their friends and point. He had a feeling they had good things to say but he wasn't interested. By the time they had the courage to talk to him after realizing he wouldn't go to them, he would just be annoyed and not pay them any attention. He was here for half priced drinks and to meet someone new and interesting. But the pickings looked pretty slim.
Bodies bumped and grinded to the music and people stood too close together to talk. He turned around to face the bar and took a swig from his bottle of beer. Half priced drinks were guaranteed but someone interesting he could have a good conversation with seemed like it wasn't going to happen. No one interested him and he was just starting to wonder if he should dance with some hot chick, get her drunk, and go home with her for the night before sneaking back home to Rian. He emptied the bottle and pushed his hand through his hair. He wanted good company and someone interesting to talk to that wouldn't assume he wanted to take them home. Was there anyone in this club that wanted the same thing? Then a face caught his eye and he wondered if she was the answer to his question.

| alexys had never been to a club before tonight. concert venues and bars, yes, but this was totally different. one of her classmates had begged her and dragged her along, then vanished off without a trace. she stood off to herself, wondering if she should wait for her friend or just find her own way home. she crossed her arms firmly over her chest and tried to avoid looking too uncomfortable. just keep your chin up and look bored. she'll come back eventually, right? her lips formed a thin line as she pulled the phone out of her pocket to check the time. it was later than she thought and she sighed. well, at least tomorrow was her day off from work.
she could feel the eyes of men staring at her and it made her heart pound anxiously. trying to hide the deep breaths she took, she opened her texts and sent a new one to her brother just to seem preoccupied and bored rather than like a nervous little lamb that could easily be lead to the slaughter. that didn't mean she was closed off and staring at her hands or the floor. she forced her chin up to fake confidence and she eyed the crowd with a forced expression of boredom. she wasn't done up like the other girls here and she hoped it would keep men just looking for a piece of ass away from her. she was just ready to call it a night and go home.
scanning through the crowd of people, she caught a pair of blue eyes looking at her and she felt the heat rise to her cheeks. the man the eyes belonged to was gorgeous and she had to tear her eyes away and look down at her shoes. why was he looking at her? she brushed her hair out of her face nervously and looked back up, catching his eyes again for a fraction of a second before looking anywhere else but where he was, but she still felt the burn in her cheeks and ears that signaled to her that she had to be blushing. |

She looked young but so did a lot of girls these days. She couldn't be in here if she was under 18 unless she had a fake ID but she didn't look the type. There seemed to be something about her that didn't fit in. Not only was she dressed like a normal person would be dressed in their daily life and she didn't have makeup caked on like most of the girls in the club, but she was alone and standing by herself. She didn't look like she wanted to bump and grind with a stranger or go home with one. Uncomfortable and awkward. It was actually pretty cute and Phoenix found himself smiling. Especially when she caught his eye and looked away. Maybe it was just lighting but he could almost swear she was blushing. He chuckled to himself and turned around, ordering another couple beers before he walked over to her.
"You look like you're having a blast." The teasing tone in his voice was meant to be playful as he handed one of the beers to her. He smiled and looked back over his shoulder at the guys he had seen staring at her. Hopefully she wouldn't think he only had one thing in mind like those other nimrods. He rubbed the back of his neck and tried to quickly think of an ice breaker. "So, uh, do you have any tattoos?" Perfect topic right? He was a tattoo artist and loved tattoos. If she had some then they could show off and talk about their tattoos. If she didn't then he could show off the ones he did on himself and invite her to come down to the apartment to go one sometime. But that would only work if she relaxed a little with him and he felt like she was actually interested instead of creeped out. He really hoped he wasn't coming off as creepy.

| always feeling like she suffered from looking younger and feeling older than her actual age, she wondered how she had even been let inside the club. he id was correct in the date and there was nothing off about it that would set off any red flags to the bouncers. of course, it wasn't fake so there was nothing that should have set off any suspicions. the back of her hands donned an already fading stamp that was supposed to glow but she found herself disappointed by it as she slowly rubbed at them in annoyance. big black x marks across the back of her hands were better than these measly little marks to signal that she couldn't buy alcoholic beverages, though she really did want one. she had been told that she could just annoy the bartenders, and she knew there were two perfect reasons to ignore the rules sprouting from her chest, but she was a young lady of dignity that refused to act like that.
she shyly slid her eyes back toward the attractive stranger and caught him smiling. oh how that smile made her cheeks feel even hotter and a smile form on her own lips. she pursed them and let out a quiet but awkward laugh to try to clam her nerves. she looked up again and butterflies awoke in her already nervously knotted stomach: he was walked right toward her with a determined stride. she swallowed and straightened her posture a bit, something she just purely out of habit. she teasing comment he said to her made a half smile touch her face. "oh yes, a really blast. i've never had so much fun in my life." she rolled her green eyes and bit her lip. slowly slipping one hand behind her back to hide the stamp, she made sure to obscure the other from his view as she took the bottle.
she watched him looked back at a group of men that had been watching her and she shifted her weight uncomfortably. was he with them? was she a conquest, a game? she tried to shake the thoughts from her head and she smiled awkwardly as he looked back at her and asked her about tattoos. a nervous chuckle bubbled out from her lips and she shook her head, "no, not yet. i'm a virgin canvas. i want to get some, though; someday. i even gave a few planned out." she just knew he had to have some, both from the questions and an assumption she had jumped to when seeing the man's overall appearance. oh how she wanted to rake her fingers through his hair... shaking her head a bit again, she tried to jar the thoughts. |

He didn't think anything of it when she hid her hand behind her back. He wouldn't have cared if he had noticed it anyway. Security was across the building and couldn't even see them except for through small gaps in the crowd when they parted for a fraction of a second. The girl seemed nervous when he stood by her. More than she had been before. The blush and smile that had come over her face when he had smiled at her was cute and he hoped he would see it again. Her reply made him nod and snicker. The sarcasm was strong with this one. That was a good sign. "Standing by yourself is always the best thing to do in a club. I'm jealous of how much fun you look like you're having." He smirked teasingly and dropped his arm after she took the bottle. That was another good sign. Like an acceptance to him wanting to talk to her instead of getting shut down and rejected. "Did you come here alone?" That was one way to jump to sounding creepy and like he only had one thing in mind. It took everything in him not to roll his eyes at himself.
The awkward smile on her face after he looked at her again made Phoenix feel like he was probably not doing a good job at not being as much of a creeper as the guys staring at her were. Then again she just seemed uncomfortable in general. In an awkward but still cute and innocent way. Like maybe she wasn't used to the interaction. It made him curious. He was surprised when she said she didn't have any tattoos. Maybe she was exactly as innocent as she seemed. "Oh yea? What do you have planned?" He was curious about what kind of story she wanted to have written on her skin for the rest of her life. Butterflies and flowers? The trendy anchor or swallow? Maybe something Disney related or a Marilyn Monroe quote. She didn't seem like she would be one of those girls but Phoenix was trying to keep his hopes up that this girl was exactly as interesting as she seemed.
"I just ask because I love tattoos. I'm a tattoo artist. I thought it would be an easy ice breaker." He laughed softly, lifting up one of the sleeves of his jacket to show off the Batman sleeve he'd started. While he seemed like he was always Mr. Big Tough Guy, he did have kind of a childish streak. That definitely included being a total Batman fanboy. It was something Rian teased him about even though she wasn't any better than him when it came to the Caped Crusader.

| "or just in general," she found herself muttering as she rolled her eyes. she usually was more of a wallflower, observing from the corner of the room instead of being directly involved with what was going on at a party or any other crowded activity. sometimes it was enjoyable, to be on the outside instead of being involved in the ridiculous and immature things people did, but it usually left her feeling lonely and bored and miserable. however, she did find a small smile playing at the corners of her mouth at his teasing back. then his question... it made her sigh and looked at the bottle he had handed her. "no. i came here with someone i go to school with but she kinda bailed on me." she shook her head and took a moment to scan the crowd, still wondering if she was here alone now. if that was the case, walking home would not be an enjoyable trek. she sighed again and shook her head.
he didn't so much make her feel awkward as it was just talking to someone she didn't know. he wasn't doing anything wrong or being intimidating. in fact, alexys rather liked him being there and talking to her; that didn't keep her hands from quaking ever so slightly or her heart from thundering in her chest. good looking guys didn't usually come over to talk to her, so that didn't ease her nerves any either. she smiled and looked at her hands, lifting her shoulders in a small shrug. "they seem kinda stupid. some of them don't really have a reason, some of them do. some i know a general idea but have no idea for a design." her vague answer was mostly her trying not too reveal too much. self consciously, she was trying to avoid him judging her. really, she wanted things that mostly expressed her interest in halloween and the macabre. people usually expected her to be such an innocent person but, once you got to know her and she felt comfortable around you enough to show her true self, you'd see that she was pretty cool... almost one of the guys.
she looked at him when he mentioned being a tattoo artist and she felt her interest in him perk. that interest only rose when he showed off a batman sleeve. she looked over the tattoos, resisting the urge to reach forward and graze her finger tips over the colored flesh. she giggled and shook her head, looking back to his face. "i didn't take you for a fanboy. batman is my favorite hero so you may just be my new best friend." she already felt a bond between the stranger and herself, and she felt a little less anxious now that there was something they could talk about. in fact, they had two topics they could discuss. a hero and an interest in ink. she was tempted to ask about his portfolio and experience in tattooing, but wondered if she should wait to keep it from taking a turn away from the innocent. |

Her reply didn't sound amused and he wondered if this was how she usually spent her time. How could she be an outcast? She seemed like she wound fit in great with other people! Nix had only know her for a couple of minutes and he could tell she had a charming personality. Her smile at his teasing and he comebacks only proved that much. She sighed and looked away from him and he learned that she was here with someone. From school? She had to mean college . . . Right? No one could she still be in high school. At least he hoped she wasn't. The way she scanned the room made him curious. "She didn't leave you here did she? You have a ride home?" Was it too early to offer her a ride or would he just sound creepy? He could at least call her a cab or something. Walking the streets at night was too dangerous for a quiet girl like this and he wasn't going to let the possibilities of what could happen to her play out in his head.
Her shyness to talk about her tattoos only made him more curious. "Tell me about them. I wanna know." He smiled sincerely. She was being vague and it perked his interest. Butterflies and flowers? Maybe she was into cooler stuff and wanted pinup girls and motorcycles. Whatever she wanted would reveal who she was underneath the shy exterior. It would tell whoever saw the tattoos a little bit more about her than you would expect or know before meeting her. "I'd love to help you design something if you'd like. Even if you don't use it or I don't do the ink." Really he just wanted that glimpse into who she was. Like pulling the curtain to the side for a minute and revealing a part of her that she was too shy to talk about to a stranger.
Finally they were getting somewhere and he almost felt some of the awkwardness disappear. Her eyes seemed a little brighter now when she said she didn't expect him to be a fanboy. He grinned at the rest of what she said. "New best friends huh? You have to be a real Batman fan for that and I have to make sure you aren't a faux Batgirl." He playfully nudged her with a coy smile. The men from before were still staring and Phoenix was starting to not like it. He looked toward an empty table behind the wall that secluded guests from the bar and dance floor. "Let's find a place to sit down so I can quiz you." Did she notice what he was trying to do? Hopefully. Hopefully she didn't think he was just trying to coax her into something else. He took a couple steps toward the sitting area and held his hand out. "I can get you a drink you'll actually like if you want." He smirked and looked at the bottle that she hadn't touched her lips.
