| she could do this. or that's what she kept telling herself. she didn't like just dropping doe off at the day camp that she had enrolled her in, it was hard for her to leave her little girl, she was always worrying that kevin would find them somehow and come and finish her off like his plan had been. she was constantly vigilant. she tried to push that away from her though, she was dressed, in something she hoped passed as professional, because really it was just a white dress topped with a lightweight, light cream colored top. sure it was close to 80 degrees and the humidity was killing her, but she still had fading scars from her last kevin encounter and she wasn't about to let her past stop her from nailing his interview. she had the perfect space, and just enough for a down payment for the shop rent, but it needed some much work done to the inside, that she needed a loan for the improvements, all of the decent banks had laughed in her face and the not so reputable banks were too high of interest. this was really her last chance. she had only been in the area for three months and was really struggling to keep up with rent and bills, since she was basically running a bakery out of her kitchen. that's why she needed the grant, was to make the improvements to the rental, so she could turn it into her cafe. she wasn't sure what they would do if she was turned down.
upon arrival to the large and intimidating building she took a deep breath. she could do this. she was prepared, beyond prepared. she had dozens of sketches of large tiered cakes, cupcake designs, and references letters from her former boss and several of the clients that she designed and made cakes for. she also had sketches of what she wanted to turn the space into; from the dining area, to the counters spaces, the kitchen, and the designated cake decorating area. she had brought her ipad, which not only had hundred of pictures of her and doe, but also dozens and dozens of photos of actually cakes she had made, ranging from wedding cakes, to birthday cakes, and everything in between. she had even painstakingly made fresh cupcakes that morning and decorated them. she was worried about that as well, but she wanted to prove that her creations tasted just as good as the looked.
she stepped out of the elevator and glanced around, walking to the desk nearby. "hello, i'm here to see graham beckham."she stated, trying to sound confident, but really, there was a lot of pressure riding on this one grant interview. if she failed, then she really would have no other choice but to go back to chicago and stay with her parents. not something she wanted to do, for the obvious reasons. she was highly aware of whispers that were happening and not-so-subtly pointing. did her spill something on her outfit? was she not dresed good enough? did they already know she would fail? she wasn't sure but she became suddenly uneasy. she was motioned to follow, and she did. anything to get away from the people making her uncomfortable. she was led to an office. she barely got a foot into the door before the door shut behind her. she glanced around, awkwardly just standing there.

| today was just another day at work with an assistant, whom showed no resemblance towards his type what-so-ever. business came to be strictly that. the rumors that he was meddling with someone ceased to exist, and the numbers tended to raise when he was working there. he had to change out the accountants, when the former one was caught messing up the numbers in the books. certain jobs shouldn't have to be his concern, and it would seem that giving some people chances when they were fresh out of college. how else were graduates going to receive experience for the job that they had been taught to do in classes. he started putting out programs and gesters that would make the former love of his life would be proud of him. he also took more off days then he used too, because he wanted to spend time with his darling two year old daughter, aria reagan. he made sure to socialize her with other small children to gain the same type of socialism he did. he would also bring her in with him, if he needed to like as if the nanny wouldn't be able to watch over her while he was at work. it wasn't until he had a child of his own, that he noticed that more of his employees had children, so he was considering putting in a nursery downstairs that required having their id card to pick up their child. the last thing he needed was a kidnapping associated with his companies name. he had to convince the other folks that associated their names with his company, but he just had to find the right note to flick to be able to get that task done.
but today he had to do a meeting inside his office with a female named genesis, funny thing was that he knew that her name met a new beginning. a fleeting thought passes his mind wondering if this what was she doing while in miami, and had seen that she hadn't always lived here. he was unaware by just how prepared that she was to get this grant, that didn't be required to be paid back with a bullshit amount of interest. he was dressed in his normal attire, which was a tux. he walked through the building and went to the little kitchenette to put a few of his drinks in the refrigerator to refill it with some of his things. he normally didn't bring much, since he didn't bring his own food and often went out to eat. it also gave him the opportunity to see aria during lunch eating at places that were kid friendly.
he rounded the corner the same time he heard his name at the front desk, and glanced over to see a beautiful brunette at the front desk. long sleeves. that was the first thing that he noticed from it, but he also knew that it could have been nothing but he also knew that it was hot for him to wear a tux and he was able to park in the company owned parking lot. "ah yes, you must be miss genesis hope, follow me to my office." he said, while giving her one final look and turning on his heels and walked to his office. he propped the door open for her to enter it, and watched her enter the room, "you may have a seat." he said, while closing the door behind them. he walked over to his desk and sat down, "so, what's your pitch for this?"

| Gen was a little startled to see the handsome man, he knew her name, so this must be the man she was looking for. She had imagined a CEO of a company to be older than him, but he seemed close to her age. And oh boy was he attractive. She knew exactly what attractive men were capable of. She had the scars and nightmares to prove exactly that even if they were easy on the eyes, meant nothing about them being easy on the body or the heart. Was this what the people where whispering about? Was he that kind of guy, was she going to regret trying to get this grant? She hoped not. She didn’t have time to even answer him, but the look he gave her made her certain something was strange. She followed him to the office and promptly took a seat. What was her pitch? She still wasn’t sure if she wanted to go into the entire story, why she desperately needed this chance to start her own bakery. She took a moment to collect herself. She placed the cupcake box on the desk in front of him. ”First, I brought samples, because anyone can say they can bake.. I want to prove that I can.” she said, her voice was gentle, but she sounded a little nervous. She was able to keep her composure though. ”the cupcake with the cherry on is a cheesecake cupcake. The rose cupcake is classic white. The multi colored cupcake is a raspberry, strawberry, blueberry cupcake; real fruit was used to make the batter… and the last one, the cat is a red-velvet spice cake…” she said. She grabbed the portfolio out of her bag and handed it to him. ”inside are reference letters from my boss in Chicago, I worked with him for about seven years.. and customers, and detailed drawings and space ideas for the kitchen, the dining area, the front area for displays, and even an outside eating area.. there is an empty shop that I’ve looked at for the café, it is in a perfect location, but it would need to be completely redone… there are also sketches of cake ideas” she told him.
She pulled an ipad out of her purse and opened it. She quickly got to the photo gallery and clicked on the first picture, propping the ipad up on the desk. ”these are cakes and cupcakes that I’ve made previously.” she said softly, ”if you just swipe to the right, then you can see the others.” she added. The truth was she had enough from her savings to get either the shop, and just the shop, nothing to turn it into a bakery/café, or a house that needed a significant amount of work. Currently though, she was spending a lot of the savings on rent and supplies running her wannabe bakery out of the tiny kitchen of the horrible little apartment they were staying in. she had only gotten about three orders in the last month, which was horrible numbers. But she really couldn’t do much in her kitchen. She needed appliances that were made for the kitchen, not the few items she had. ”at my previous job, I was the head cake decorator; I can give you my transcripts from school if you want, and anything else you might need…” she added. She wanted to make sure that he knew she was serious about this and prepared to run her own business.

| graham was a few years away from his thirties, but he had only recently matured and started acting his age accordingly. there was no denying that this woman was attractive, and as of right now, he didn't know her story. the only thing he really knew about this woman was that she needed money to be able to be a small business owner. he was also aware that all business have to start somewhere, and they don't just spring up over night. he wondered if she has been able to figure out how to advertise her business on it's grand opening when it comes time around. there was a lot to take into consideration, and if her things were as good as she was making it out to seem... it looked like he knew where he was going to get aria's birthday cake or just her treats cause she had a sweet tooth on her. aria also enjoyed eating her banana with her cereal in the mornings. he cared deeply for this lovable little two year old. he was also aware that he mentally wasn't prepared to handle this task of fatherhood, and pearl had changed all of that without meaning to do so. the funny thing was that she resembled pearl in a way, but he couldn't quite put his finger on exactly why that thought passed his mind. perhaps, it's cause he still wanted her to be alive.. and he did go visit her grave site. the benefits for her family is that he took care of everything and paid for a round trip for them to attend her funeral. he had noticed that she was carrying a box, but he wasn't expecting to get any form of treats. "if i had known i was going to get dessert, i would have skimped on food." he responded, but he still leaned forward and viewed the cupcakes as she told him which ones were which.
listening to her while he was scrolling through her idevice and he was certainly impressed with her skill level. each image held the theme intact and he was enjoying the visual appeal to the overall images. he skimmed the images of her transcripts that she brought up and it wasn't long before he made one swipe too many. this woman was a mother to a precious little girl. genesis had already won her goal for the day, but now he was just scrolling through her personal pictures. it was most likely an invasion of privacy, but he just couldn't bring himself to stop. it wasn't every day that he was able to see a mother's love in person, and often felt like aria was missing out on girl things. "how have you been doing, though?" he asked, out of curiosity. this couldn't have been her first day here in the city of miami. that's when he scrolled pasted the cutest pictures of mother and daughter to her face riddled with fear and bruises/blood. it caused his stomach to turn and he had hoped that she had long since left her abuser. he scrolled back to the cupcakes, and cleared his throat, "seems like i scrolled to far, you have an adorable little girl." he said, and picked up his pen to write her name down. "honestly, i had already planned on giving you the grant, when i saw that you arrived on time." he said, while looking up at her. "i can have it deposited to your account, if you'd like?" he commented, as he didn't have the check prepared, "or i can write the check out"

| gen could only smirk and blush a little at him. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to come to this prepared." she told him. she had no other choices at the moment. she needed him to see that she could do it. she could be successful, and if she couldn't then she would have no other choice but to leave and go back to chicago, which meant they would be too close to kevin, and that was a risk she couldn't take. not for herself and not for doe. she sat there, trying to keep her spirits high and to come off as confident. but then he asked her a question. he asked how she was doing, did he know about her history? she didn't want pity, she didn't want the money if it was just because he knew that she was coming from an abusive situation. "I'm doing well." she told him, it wasn't so much of a lie, she was doing much better from how she had been a few months ago. when he admitted to her that he had scrolled to far, there was a second that terror jolted in her. she knew what pictures were on there, and there were pictures that she had taken to prove that kevin had abused her. but, he only mentioned that she had a beautiful daughter. she smiled a little. "thank you, that's meadow.." she said softly. "she's the reason i'm trying to make this happen for us." she added. she wanted to be able to give her daughter everything. she wanted to make sure that she never go into a situation or relationship that made her think that she deserved to be hurt or abused. she wondered if he had kids, maybe she struck a nerve with the pictures of doe on the device. "do you have children?" she asked, almost instantly regretting asking him that question. it was too personal.
she wasn't expecting to get an answer that day, or at all. she was certain that he could find someone that had better plans or better pitches. but then he said that he had already decided to give her the grant. she had to stop herself from jumping up and hugging him. hell, she was so excited she felt like she could give him a kiss. she tried not to show how excited she was, but, it was clear. her eye were brighter, she had a winning smile plastered on her face, and yes there were actual tears welling up in her eyes, but she wouldn't let them fall. "thank you!" she said happily."you won't regret this i swear!" she added, feeling like she needed to assure him that it was good to take a risk on her. she paused when he asked how she wanted the money. "you can deposit it, that would probably be much easier." she told him, of course that gave him access to her banking accounts, but he would probably soon realize that she really had no money. she had been charging her credit cards and her bank accounts were nealy tapped out. "anytime you need food or baked treats, let me know, and i'll make sure you get the best." she said witha small grin. she was serious of course.
